THE LEADOUT FOUNDATION
Our mission is to increase cycling participation by fostering access to bicycling for all ages and experience levels and to support new and emerging riders and racers.
US cycling has seen exponential growth since 2020. In Austin as elsewhere, new and returning riders have sought resources to further their passion for riding. For those of us interested in organized rides and races, the question was “what can we do to engage
new riders, increase their interest in bicycling, and turn them into dedicated cyclists?”
Turning riders into avid cyclists requires experienced cyclists, cycling events, and amateur bicycle races to focus on new riders by giving them places to ride, tools to do so safely and smartly, confidence, and encouragement. The LeadOut Foundation was formed by experienced, veteran riders to support Austin-area cycling advocacy and education efforts aimed at new ridership. Increasing the pool that dedicated riders come from is hard work and takes money. The LeadOut Foundation directly funds local organizations already doing the heavy lifting of advocacy and education.
The LeadOut Foundation also supports new riders and emerging racers through our own programming, namely the Mentor Program.
The LeadOut Foundation was founded in part to support local cycling advocacy and education efforts. Turning riders into avid cyclists that might then take up racing first means growing the pool of riders in our community. Our fundraising proceeds, from sponsorships and events, support other local nonprofits making the local cycling community better for all riders.
